Capital Group appoints Standard Chartered tech chief CIO

Capital Group announced Thursday that it will bring Guillermo Veiga on board as chief information officer, with the move set for November and a relocation from Singapore to California.

Veiga to steer technology as Capital Group’s new CIO

Veiga succeeds Marta Zarraga, who will retire at year‑end. The firm describes itself as the world’s largest global active investment manager, a role that increasingly relies on technology, data and AI to serve clients worldwide.

Rob Klausner, chief operating officer, said the appointment reflects the growing importance of those tools in scaling the business. He highlighted Veiga’s “technology expertise, operational leadership and experience leading large, complex organizations.”

From banking to investment management: Veiga’s background

Before joining Capital Group, Veiga served as group chief information and operations officer at Standard Chartered Bank, a role he took on in June according to his LinkedIn profile. He had been group chief information officer since May 2025.

At Standard Chartered, he oversaw technology across corporate and institutional banking, wealth, retail and business banking, plus corporate functions, spanning more than 50 markets and roughly 18,000 colleagues.

Earlier, from September 2023, he led wealth, retail and business banking technology across 35 markets in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. His stated priorities included cutting platform and application complexity by about 40 percent, embedding controls into delivery, and rolling out generative AI across software engineering.

The profile also notes savings exceeding 100 m over two years in the wealth, retail and business banking division, though the currency isn’t specified. Prior to Standard Chartered, Veiga was chief technology and operating officer for wealth management and insurance at Banco Santander, overseeing operations across 12 countries from October 2018 to October 2023.

During the COVID‑19 pandemic, he oversaw the rollout of BlackRock’s Aladdin platform across ten countries, and introduced cryptocurrency access for Swiss private‑banking clients.

Earlier stints include roles at Amazon Web Services and Cisco, and board memberships with Santander units ISBAN, Geoban and Produban between 2016 and 2018.

Veiga said Capital Group’s long‑term commitment to its people and culture drew him, alongside the chance to lead during a period of global expansion as data and AI change ways of working.

Veiga will relocate to California in November to begin his role at Capital Group.
