The Drunken Noodles are a hit at Sakura
Victor Taihuttu wanted to bring a different kind of cuisine to Jackson County, so he opened a restaurant that offered hibachi, sushi and Thai food.
Taihuttu opened Sakura in November 2022 in the former Northwest Coney Island location after it closed last summer.
The Drunken Noodles, a Thai dish, have become a favorite menu item, he said. The meal comes with noodles, eggs, bell peppers, onions, a sweet brown sauce and a choice of tofu, chicken, beef or shrimp.

Monster Box Theater opening delayed, but the show must go on
While there have been some delays in getting up and running, that hasn’t stopped the organizers behind the new Monster Box Theater from sharing art with the Jackson community.
Founder and Artistic Director Paul Stark and his partner Tahra Gribbin are bringing the professional theater nonprofit to Jackson in the former Book Exchange building, 130 E. Washington Ave.
Plans originally called to open in the spring, however, they are still working to get the building up to code, Stark says.

The banana split is as good as ever at Frosty Boy
It’s not the flowers blooming or the sun shining that lets Jacksonians know spring has arrived. It’s when Frosty Boy opens its doors for the season.
Frosty Boy in Jackson was founded and opened by Danny Amanati in 1995. He owned the ice cream shop for almost 25 years before he sold the business at 1201 Cooper St. to Jackson residents Shelby and Nathan Richard two years ago.
For nearly three decades, Frosty Boy has been known to serve items like sundaes, soft-serve cones, flurries and other cold treats. The Richards are keeping this tradition alive.
The duo continues to make menu favorites including the banana split, the peanut butter crunch sundae and the tiger twist, which is made of orange and vanilla soft serve, Nathan said.
